Aluminum isn't really <i>necessary</i> since varying the paraffin used can make even greater changes in performance. IOW paraffin can be very green.<br /><br />Another additive is carbon black or an another material with high optical absorptivity, the purpose of which is to insure that most radiative energy is absorbed at the fuel grains surface, preventing deformation. <br /><br />Then there's stearic acid which can harden the grain. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>
