Star chart problems

so by using a starchart, you locate something according to the chart right?<br />what if some stars are not visible are barely visible in your area that you don't even notice that star?<br />does the chart become almost useless because you could mistaken what you see on the chart and what you see in the sky?<br />

I locate things by Constellations - the bright stars in the constellation. I use two stars to triangulate to the object I am seeking. In my Las Vegas skies, even most of the brighter stars are not visible - that just makes it more challenging! You can use your view finder to help zero in on most of the stars you would see in dark skies. Or, binoculars help in skies that are not perfect.
