Got a mate at Paramount who says this is now on and won't have any charaters from the TV series.

Rick Berman and Brandon Braga producing and Michael Bay apparently being director (which I think is a first) with Jonathan Frakes assisting.

Film nearly finished its writing stages. Craig Thomas "FireFox" writing after his first draft apparently got the suits at Paramount really excited.

That's all I have!

Data, the ageless robot, was beginning to look a bit long in the tooth, especially on the big screen. It will be nice to have a whole new cast and story. They just better not mess it up.

The only new SG I liked was First Contact - as it has a storyline that was pretty cool. They need to get the script right.

I dunno; I kinda like the first one. But yes, it is rather long. It's sort of like 2001 in that respect. Or the original Russian film of Solaris.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Good news! I've grown fond of most of the Star Trek films, usually they are a good mix of suspense, action, humor and special effects. Michael Bay makes those big blockbuster action films right? Could turn out to be quite something.

Micheal (Pearl Harbour) Bay is a Hack.

He's getting his grubby little paws on Transformers as well.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. flynn,

Well, as long as we don't get to see Ben Affleck in a Star Trek uniform, I'm OK with it.

They actually cut scenes to shorten it. Can you imagine watching the extended version?

I've seen the "director's cut" version, which is basically with those scenes put back in. I like it, but then, I kind of like that sort of movie. It's around three hours long, though, so you need time to burn if you're going to watch the long version.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

The first half of Star Trek 1 was ok, the second half was just so damn boring I (who am a big Trek fan) could barely sit through it without looking for something else to do. Then after all is was a lost Voyager probe, I thought that was reallllllllly lame. " a planet of machines must have found it, and repaired it. (and created a light year long cloud of energy and crap that made it about a billion times smarter and more powerful, come on, not even in the Star Trek Universe would that happen)
Don't let your sig line incite a gay thread ;>)

You're right. One half expects Spock to walk out of there saying "I quit. Captain, this is so illogical I just can't stand it!"

“Well, that and a Voyager space craft would not have gotten all that far by the time of the Enterprise Re-fit. no where near even the closest star."

Don’t worry; I’m sure there’s a good Star Trek explanation. “It fell into a warp-phased pathway, modulated by the theta radiation from a nearby black hole. Then, due to tetrion emissions produce by the warp bubble-it accelerated exponentially towards and inevitable collision with a type 3 civilization.”

Captain Kirk: “So that’s how it happened.”
Spock: “Yes it is. I’ll stake my reputation on it.”

There's enough techno-babble in there to just make it plausible too!
