In the unlikely event of an STS-300 Rescue launch ...

who will crew it? The STS-121 crew?

why carry a full crew if there will not be a need for medical assistance?

could the rescue shuttle be sent up with just two (CDR/PLT) thereby reducing risk to additional crew.

I assume that any event that would lead to an STS-300 mission would also mean that shuttle is susceptable to the same problem ... so could we potentially lose two shuttle and two crews?

How will the rescued crew be seated in the rescue contingency? 11 people is a LOT of seats. or will it be Standing Room Only.

>I assume that any event that would lead to an STS-300 mission would also mean that shuttle is susceptable to the same problem ... so could we potentially lose two shuttle and two crews?
Correct. That's why it would only be attempted if there was absolutely no other option.

Some crewmen have done the entry standing up a couple of times.

!!!

What is the story here? Were the crewmembers standing with the knowledge of the flight director? Or was this an impromptu situation that started with the phrase, "Hey, wouldn't it be neat to try ......."!

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

"Correct. That's why it would only be attempted if there was absolutely no other option."

A touchy situation might be when some critical piece of shuttle equipment fails, and the cause of the failure in uncertain.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

"They did it without coordinating with the ground and only talked about it after they left the astronaut office"

Musgrave mentioned it when his crew, "F-Troop" briefed the crew training division shortly after STS-6. Nobody seemed to think it was that big a deal.

But you already have 2 EVA trained crew BEING rescued.

Is there some process that prevents them from entering the rescue vehicle and assuming the facilitation of the crew transfer?
"2012..
