Hello all
As part of our Teen Tech innovation (a UK science and engineering competition for 11-18-year-olds), we designed a Mars rover that could help support human colonization. Our idea includes a greenhouse gases tank, a robotic arm to pick up boulders, a Carbon Dioxide Laser and Fibre Laser to break rocks apart, a compact refinery to extract metals and gases, and a range of sensors to monitor environmental conditions.
Obviously, we can’t physically include lasers or a refinery in a science fair project, but we’ve built a prototype with a robotic arm using servos, motors for movement, solar panels for power, and sensors to collect environmental data. The goal is to explore how this kind of rover could provide the resources needed for a sustainable human habitat on Mars, maybe even supporting further colonization.
Do you have any advice on our project? Any key improvements or important things we should consider?
Thanks for your time!
