Interesting. New cosmological surveys prefer early universe black holes that are spun up to high rates by accretion. While late universe black holes may have lost or reversed angular momentum from mergers. The passing models (EHT model, jet model) differ in spin rates but they prefer a range of high to medium retro-rotation, signifying mergers.

It would be interesting to see an accretion spin up model.
