Nice video. But what's Sojourner doing on the Moon?

They seemed to miss out LOI as well.. but a very nice video. I hope the rover cam won't be in black and white!

Actually, the link wont work for me! Oh hold on: here it comes....

Well, that was pretty cool. That makes it more real for me now. I wonder if there will be a higher resolution, downloadable version soon?

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

Even I have to admit that was a pretty entertaining little video. Rather well made, even though as shuttle_guy said, the crew vehicle hanging around on the pad after the booster ignites is somewhat irksome. There also was the whole rocket sounds in a vacuum thing, but I suppose that could be attributed to miking the vehicle as opposed to the camera platform. Could we get a better camera for the remote camera viewing the lunar liftoff? Also did anyone catch some of the kind of background dialog? At least two times, and possibly a third the line "Ok, we'll be thinking about it" was repeated by somebody over what I guess would be the radio circuit. Apparantly no matter what happens, a whole lot of thinking is going to be done either on the moon or in mission control.

After watching both videos the overwhelming impression I was left with was that they were almost straight out of Apollo 13. Both of them only enhance the the feeling that we're just rehashing Apollo, putting folks on the moon to scoop some lunar regolith in their hands, set up some more scientific-looking instruments, and then come home. Can't we get a good combination wherein we're reusing some of the orbital hardware, the stuff which is most expensive to get into orbit, is recycled? Can't we leave a service module type thing in orbit, an LSAM orbiting the moon and simply lift fuel for both the service module and LSAM to avoid always having to build and lift those for every time we want to land on the moon, stomp some footprints, and pick up some rocks?

Those sorts of things will come in time.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

The movie wasn't made to be technically correct but to showcase the plan and to show congress why they are spending so much money on the it, and maybe inspire people to get behind the project.

The music was kinda chessy but it was a great movie, a lot more entertaining than the CEVedit2 movie i think all of us have seen before many times. Sure, sounds in space may be a physics impossiblity, but it sure makes it more pleasurable to watch!

While I was enjoying the video, all I could think of is the scene from "Destination Moon" where the industrialist shows the "Woody Woodpecker" film to demonstrate how the moon rocket will work! Regarding the sound, I saw (and heard) the cams from the SRB's on the last flight and it was very impressive. I assume the sound is all propagated through the structure.

Perhaps the CLV will be held to the pad like with spacex's launches?
I think it's all fake. Did you see how the flag waved? And the shadows are all wrong. They're trying put pull a fast one on us! ;^}

Perhaps the CLV will be held to the pad like with spacex's launches?
Falcon (and a bunch of other rockets with liquid first stages) are held down for a few moments while a launch sequencing computer checks that all engines are operating properly before release (if the computer detects any problems then the engines are shut down safely and the problems can be fixed without throwing away a multi-million $ vehicle)

There's no point doing that for the CLV because the SRB can't be shut down after ignition. Once the igniters are fired you are committed to launching. Also, even if you did want to hold it down you'd need some REALLY hefty bolts, beefier than the ones currently used on the Shuttle.

The Shuttle does a sort of similar check where they run the SSMEs up to (near?) full thrust and check all is well before SRB ignition. But once SRB ignition is commanded, that machine is going to leave the pad once way or another.

The point that s_g made was that MSFC has said that it would leave the pad even if none of the bolts fire.
