The Mesas of Aureum Chaos

These images, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, show the 'chaotic' terrain of the Aureum Chaos region on Mars.<br /><br />(click for pics)

The first time I watched the image, I was thinking light came from top left corner (like we are used to see in windows)…<br />That way it looks like raised lines of gold over a flat surface… I had no idea how such a features could be created…<br /><br />Looking again I realized the light came from bottom right, and the lines were carved on the surface. <img src="/images/icons/laugh.gif" /><br />

I had to flip the image through 180 to instinctively understand what I was seeing.
