THEMIS launch today

by chance i got to see the launch =) i was looking for it yesterday but it didnt launch, but as we were on the highway, we saw it! yay, amazing.<br /><br />

We watched it from the beach, about 4 miles from the launchpad. It was picture perfect. It sounded louder than most other Delta II's, I guess because of the cooler temperature. What a great launch. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

How long before Nasa get some meaningful data sent down from the probes?

From the THEMIS Press kit HERE there's a 30 day checkout period for the sats. Interesting read on the mission; it's a PDF file.<br /><br />Mission length is 2 years.<br /><br />I recall reading yesterday that proper sat alignment will take another month, but I can't find that article, so could be recalling incorrectly <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font color="#000080"><em><font color="#000000">But the Krell forgot one thing John. Good launch. <br /><br />For some reason I'm really interested in vernier (sp) thrusters. I think its my interest of the week. Until recently I didn't know that the Delta II used them (Found out watching some footage and hearing the launch commentator explain that they shut down a few seconds after MECO). <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>
