Does no-one understand the words of Einstein, and Minkowski ? there is no time alone, or space alone. their union is called space -time, IOW they form a single phenomenon, which due to the nature of relativity preserves each observers independent reality, and makes the speed of light a constant for all observers. It's hardly Rocket science !!! Why is there so much confusion ?

Yes, there is SPACE alone, the always timeless (to some "nothing") Big Background, 'infinity' (infinite, infinitesimal, infinities....). Backing up (immortally backing them), tying to, two others, the distant closed up collapsed cosmological constant (/\) Planck (Big Crunch (big WIMP)) (Big Bang (big WIMP)) 'Mirror Event Horizon' (t= unsigned '1') and the entangling spontaneously concurrent (t=0) REALTIME SPACE NOW (t=0) instant moment (Hawking's single-handed, single-digited, frozen NOW clock eternally overhanging his "Grand Central Station of the Universe (U)" beneath which all exist and pass).

Some think we -- and do a lot of professional talking it up -- are nothing but closed up holograms with no real breadth or depth of background or foreground reality. With no Planck breadth and depth, we would be nothing but "bubble" cartoonish holograms were it not for the trinity listed above. A trinity not existing THEN (way back when), only! but existing NOW (for all of a timeless time (Hawking's GCS clock time (t='1') and/or (t='0')) expanding upon Einstein's finding in his mind's eye trip to the speed of light ((t='1') and/or (t='0')), too!

Try on time dilation and time reversal as a traveler's observed constant 1/2 of space travel! Try on the speed of light being the slowest speed in the universe "at-a-distance," Einstein's "spooky action at-a-distance" (at any distance)!

try on the breakdown of relativity as you leave . . . and the buildup of relativity as you arrive.

SPACETIME is based upon light's holography and past (observed)-future (unobserved and unobservable yet to be observed) histories, its microcosmic 'Cantor set' photon and concomitant macrocosmic 'Cantor set' photo-frame:

I know what you mean; the embedding space for our universe. However, this may consist of a theoretical 'absence' with only the potential for 4+ dimensions. I am pointing out that the space vacuum (with virtual particles) probably does not exist in 'embedding space' which is itself only a potential. Maybe
So Curiosity's Spacetime does not exist in the 'embedding space' issue that you raised.

Yet light-time's SPACETIME coordinate points past-future histories is pervasive throughout SPACE as many-sided crossroads fronts always oncoming at the speed of light (exactly like Hawking's description of the many-sided crossroads particle that is at once many independent individual particles (many particle path spokes into a hub particle crossroad)). As such, they are single-sided only dimensional fronts having no backend because their backends are inevitably other frontends incoming to infinities of space and time crossroads. You can't catch from the rear (catch up to) what does not exist from the backend. You turn (verse: turn: universe: a single turn) you turn to yet another coordinate point past-future history incoming pathing to your crossroad 0-point center of the universe you -- and all else -- occupy.

It isn't theoretical physics. It is far too often unrecognized obvious physics, including far too often unrecognized obvious physics of 0-point infinity . . . as illustrated and demonstrated by the infinite infinitesimal (infinitesimal infinite) of the 'Mandelbrot set'.
