Updating Birthday on Profile

I have been trying to change the birthdate listed on my profile but it's not working. I put the date in as indicated, but a completely different date appears after I've saved my preference. Any suggestions?

The date that is shown is the default date. For some reason, your input is not being accepted.

Are you using 2 digit month/ 2 digit date, and 4 digit year in the proper boxes?

For example, April 6, 1986 would be 04/06/1986
