Want to see the potential tau Herculids meteor shower? Here's what to expect, according to NASA.

i went out several times, starting at about midnight U.S. Eastern Daylight Time, and kept that up past 2 pm. Viewing conditions were very favorable (for this area), with many stars visible above minimal light pollution from the nearest town. Still saw zero meteors. For the length of time I was starring at the sky, I would normally expect to see at least one meteor during non-"shower" periods. I did see a large number of very bright lightning bugs flashing about. One even had the proper trajectory to have been a tau Herculids meteor, but then flashed "on" again in the same trajectory, so clearly not.

I am definitely going to be sleepy all day, today.
