I was just looking at the Opportunity Route Map, and I wondered what scale of calamity would it take to change the nature of the edge of Victoria Crater?

MRO pics have shown recent gully activity has occured elsewhere on Mars in the past few years. Theories include collapses underground.

Could an underground event cause one of the capes to collapse?

Have they established that the area around Victoria has been inactive for a substantial period? By inactive I do not mean to imply water, just things like rockslides.

Is that area of Mars dormant enough to assure the rover operators that Victoria and all of its recently-named features will remain in place for the time being?

I'm a recovering optimist - things could be better.
