What Science Fiction novel would you like to see made into a

One of the best time travel novels I would love to see made into a movie is "Replay" by Ken Grimwood and I read he was working on the screenplay when he passed away in 2005 but since his passing it sort of dropped out of sight.<br /><br />Also, a newer novel, "STR8 BOLT" by J.T. Whitman ,would make an incredible movie too. I have read the screenplay is done and maybe in the works for 2009.<br /><br />Either one would be a refreshing change to some of the time travel crap that has been made into movies these past 10 years.<br />

What about Heinlein's "Starman Jones." I've always wondered what a series about him would turn out to be.<br /><br />Feintuch's "Nicholas Seafort" novels would be good too. It's a Horatio Hornblower in space saga and would be easy to translate into an episodic series. They'd just have to stretch out the timeline some and add some filler scenes in there.<br /><br />David Brin's "Ender" series would be good and would appeal to a wide audience as long as the pace was kept up.<br /><br />My favorite would be Greg Benford's "Galactic Center" novels. But, that would take too much money and would be a little daunting to explore all the works. Still, the man vs mechanicals and the ultimate mystery behind it all would be pretty riveting, IMO. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <font size="1">I put on my robe and wizard hat...</font> </div>

I think "Light of Other Days" by Arthur C. Clark and Stephen Baxter could make it as a mainstream movie. While definitely scifi, there's enough on the psychology of privacy in society that a non-techie audience would still appreciate it.<br /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> Full-time cruising now!!! </div>

Hmmm... Well out of all these books i have read its REALLY hard to choose one of them.<br /><br />Ender series I agree should be made into movie. They CANNOT tone anything down and make it a kids movie that WILL bomb.<br /><br />Jack McDevitt has wrote many many science fiction with history and mystery intertwined and would make great movies since there is sex/action and thats all the audience wants these days.<br /><br />And lastly the ChungKuo series by David Wingrove would make a great tv series but not a movie. Since the books span too great of a time period. BUT IT WOULD HAVE TO BE FINISHED since HBO/Fox etc have a nasty habit of canceling great shows. <br /><br />I.e. <br />FireFly<br />Rome<br />Jericho<br /><br />Am I missing any more?

The problem with turning a book into a movie is, everyone on the production end has a differing vision than the writer, for the most part. Some turn out really well while most fall flat on their faces.<br /><br />On the other hand, I haven't read anything so incredibly remarkable lately that I'd want to see turned into a movie.<br /><br /><img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" /><br /><br />Rob

I can think of a ton of them.<br /><br />Rendezvous With Rama would be cool. So would Songs of Distant Earth.<br /><br />Non Clarke movies? Heck, the Foundation series could fund an entire studio. Or, you could make it into sort of a limited run series. Not quite a mini-series but a series lasting a year or so where you run one hour long episode a week. Shouldn't be to much to ask from Hollywood.<br /><br />The Honor Harrington series by David Weber would be good too. I've been re-reading the whole shebang from the beginning (after realizing I'd only read 1/3 of the books and all out of order).
