Which Sci-Fi Ships Would You Own?!

If I could own any of the vast fleet of fictional spacecraft from science fiction movies & TV: which would I have?

CHOICE 1#: Federation Runabout -- could fly me most anywhere in a couple-hundred light year radius just by me saying: "Computer -- lay in a course for Epsilon Eridani (etc), Warp Factor Five." Then I'd sit back and enjoy the ride while the computer flies me there. I wouldn;t even have to learn how to fly it.

CHOICE #2: TARDIS -- Anywhere in time and space, though I'd have to have a certain Timelord with me to operate it. Wouldn't that be cool...

Most other choices would require me having to know how to fly them, or having a huge infrastructure or base to operate them. "Millenium Falcon" would be too maintence-intensive to own and an X-Wing; too cramped and uncomfortable.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

I always liked the Jupiter 2.

The interdimensional craft described in Number of the Beast would be cool too.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

the TARDIS is hard to beat for mobility. I guess it could be my antique "car"

for a sports car I would have a transformable fighter, like the Vertitech mecha fighter from the Robotech/Macross saga.

The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.
--- James Clerk Maxwell

The Jupiter 2, the one from the TV series, has, if you believe the terrible scientific writing, controllable intergalactic capability....

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

There was one (or maybe 2) early b/w episodes that showed a hallway between 2 of the bedrooms. I figured the bathroom was down there somewhere.

Several questions arise:

Did the Bloop use the bathroom too?

At most, there were 3 bedrooms, how did they parse themselves out? Did Capt. West sleep with Penny and Judy?

In one episode, there was clearly a stairway behind the electronic elevator, but in another episode, that room back there was blocked off with shelves. In another episode, there was a window back there where they could watch the approaching missle from the Machine Planet approaching. What's up with that part of the ship?"

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Thanx for the drawing.

Sometimes the Time Tunnel made the same sound the Jupiter 2 did. Very cool . . . .

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

I have a printed guide to the Jupiter II somehwere in my library, plenty of diagrams.

The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.
--- James Clerk Maxwell

The SS Nostromo.

Hunting gear optional, but recommended.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

I think I mentioned this once before - a couple of years ago I was fortunate enough to exchange emails with Guy Williams son, who owns a web art company.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

The spaceship that Lawrence Newton sets himself up with at the end of Hamilton's Fallen Dragon.

I do admit admit, however, one would be hard pressed to beat having a tardis.

Way cool -- way fast -- robust design.

Or heck -- how 'bout a Defiant class ship? The Jupiter 2 was supposed to be the first of many in the colonization of Alpha Centauri. Given that, I have wondered if the old statement could be modified - i.e.

Good fences make better neighbors

becomes

Good force fields make better neighbors

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

One other point about the J2 - the controls on the lower beck were supposed to be a full backup for those on the main deck, i.e. the ship could be controlled from there - though that was never mentioned in the series.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

What about the ship in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with the improbability drive? I've always wanted to fly through space in a ball of yarn!

Or for that matter -- how 'bout a silver surf board?

As we've been discussing in another thread, the Silver Surfer had more or less the coolest ride around.
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

Well, if we are going to broaden things, I would like a Flying Sub from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - if I could just handle the g loading at impact with the sea.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher
