White dwarfs: Facts about the dense corpses of stars

The statement that about 97% of the stars in the MW (or any galaxy no doubt) will end up as white dwarfs is interesting.

It's as if Red Dwarfs (current majority of stars) go through a color metamorphosis.... from red to blue-white (extremely hot) to white, eventually to yellow, orange, then red and, finally, black.

Since Type Ia supernovae require white dwarfs, will there be a big increase the SN as a result during this transition? Perhaps in number but not rate given their extreme longevity, perhaps.
