Why did Elon Musk put a Car /Ct Dummy into the Asteroid Belt instead of trying to save the Hubble Telescope from burning up in the Earth's Atmosphere?

To Whom it May Concern;
Why did Elon Musk put a Tesla Car with a CrashTest Dummy into our Solar System's Asteroid Belt instead of trying to save the Hubble Telescope from burning up in the Earth's Atmosphere?

You have expressed a "false choice".

The first flight of Musk's rocket was far too risky to carry any payload of value, or attach itself and reboost anything of great value. No one knew if the rocket would work or not. It was a first of its kind and there are always glitches. There had to be a payload of a certain weight in order to fully test out the rocket's capabilities and it had to be something that could be destroyed without any great financial loss. A used car fit the bill perfectly.

There is no need to boost Hubble right now. When the need arises NASA will probably service it at the same time. It looks like Hubble will not reenter until the mid 2030's, so there is plenty of time to design and implement whatever they want to do. In 2035, Hubble's electronics will be 45 years old, and having been subjected to the cosmic radiation at that altitude would probably need everything replaced. This might not even be possible.

In addition to a sense of humor, it also is a display of manufactured items to any otherworlders who may happen to see them. Did he include a sticker for Made On Earth or something?

Maybe someone on Mars will import it, then we could set up a trade agreement. It’ll certainly drive faster than the rovers already there, if they figure out how to give it power.

Besides, if NASA were to fly a spacecraft, it’s our money, so it oughta be something value added, but, this was his money, he is under no obligation to fly anything except what he likes.

🥱 The question was not directed @ his authority!
🚀 Only his accomplishment ❓ 😞
