Careful, sssalvi - you're from another country, you're supposed to wait for us to look those up for you. <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p>.</p><p><font size="3">bipartisan</font>  (<span style="color:blue" class="pointer"><span class="pron"><font face="Lucida Sans Unicode" size="2">bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən</font></span></span>) [Adj.]  Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.</p><p><strong><font color="#ff0000"><font color="#ff0000">IMPE</font><font color="#c0c0c0">ACH</font> <font color="#0000ff"><font color="#c0c0c0">O</font>BAMA</font>!</font></strong></p> </div>

The Hindu tradition is polythestic. ie. it is a pagan tradition by definition, yes. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p>.</p><p><font size="3">bipartisan</font>  (<span style="color:blue" class="pointer"><span class="pron"><font face="Lucida Sans Unicode" size="2">bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən</font></span></span>) [Adj.]  Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.</p><p><strong><font color="#ff0000"><font color="#ff0000">IMPE</font><font color="#c0c0c0">ACH</font> <font color="#0000ff"><font color="#c0c0c0">O</font>BAMA</font>!</font></strong></p> </div>

English new year(First January) and not Christmas signifies the winter solstice . Winter solstice occured around First January at the time of adoption of Gregarion calendar. The mismatch is due to precession of equinox. Pongal which is a winter solstice festival is celebrated around fourteenth january

Oct 5th of Julian calendar became Oct15th of Greg Calendar. Same logic says that 22Dec of Greg corresponds to 12Dec of Jul and not 22+10= around 1st Jan.<br /><br />Whereas 25Dec of Grg corresponds to 15 Dec of Jul Calendar. So none of these festivities correspond to new year.<br /><br />Pongal/Makar Sankranti would correspond approx to the beginning of Julian calendar year.
