First of all I have not seen the original series, and I do not wish to. Well I have seen a few clips of this show on SciFi and I wanted to get into it but I knew I'd missed a lot most likely so I didn't even bother. Yesterday however I watched the "Story So Far" episode that was OnDemand on Comcast and It says it was a 44 minute recap of the last two season.. I don't know anything about this program other than what that explained to me so I was woundering is now a good time to start watching or do I need to do some more background research first? I see the robot chick had a baby with the human guy and stuff, then I saw the other crew I guess that they thought were dead come back and the leader was replaced and the new captin tried to kill the guy for killing the other guy for trying to kill (or was he trying to rape?) his robot chick.. anyways it left off there as to be continued is that how the season ended or did the season end with the people on the new Earth or whatever they called it then the robots found and enslaved them?

Also Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis I've never seen.. are they in anyway related to Battlestar also?

hmmm...there is a lot of background now in the story, but the episodes generally don't rely upon them.

I do suggest watching the rest of the series, you should be able to rent it at blockbuster or similar movie place (or Netflix.com is a really good idea). A lot happens.

Basic rundown:

Man creates cylon,

cylons rebel,

man fights cylon,

cylons leave.

50 years pass,

****Show starts here****

Cylons infiltrate humanity with new human looking robots,

Baltar betrays Humanity by giving Cylon Agent (a #6 model, one that's in his head) access to the defense computers...though he didn't know she was a cylon.

Cylons nuke and destroy all the human planets, almost all human vessels.

Galactica and a few ships escape, and run for their lives.

Cylons track and harass them.

Adama Sr. says he knows were Kobol is (a mythical planet in their religion) just to boost morale. He doesn't know, but hopes he can find it (President Rosalyn knows this as well).

There's lots of shows that incorporate the internal struggles, such as martial law, food shortages, government, etc. (lots of good episodes here)

They find a nice planet (infested with cylon scouts), but it has an artifact on it that shows them were Kobol is...in general.

They find another Battlestar (Pegasus) which canabalized the fleet it came with for both parts, and personell. The ships and people not found useful were left behind (or personally destroyed if they resisted).

On the pegasus there was a heavily abused Cylon agent (a #6 just like Baltars) that Baltar saves, and introduces into the fleet (I mention this since you mentioned it specifically)

Theres lots of tension and an inevitable showdown with the pegasus captain, crew, ship, cylons, whoo eee! what a set of episodes. Won't spoil much.

Then, they find a habitable planet in a nebula

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Yea thanks thats pretty much what I already knew thanks to the review ondemand, I just don't understand the part about the sellout or whatever happened to allow the robots inside the ship.

I started watching at the end of the first season and though I was missing a lot of info I still enjoyed it. I finally bought the first season dvd and am slowly catching up on the things I missed.

are you talking about a specific event, or just in general (like why are cylons wandering around the fleet?)

In general: The cylons are in the fleet, as they had a large number posing as regular people in order to infiltrate a lot of key positions. Now, since they've only got 12 models, I'm suprised people didn't/don't notice them a bit more, unless they were very careful not to have overlaping areas.

So the cylons in the fleet, are cylons that were there before the attack. They're sleeper agents who may, or may not, know they're cylons.

If the betrayal you're talking about is the initial one, Baltar let #6 take a look at the defense computers (that had schematics, piloting software, security protocols, detection arrangments...way to much stuff for one computer system). He didn't know she was a cylon, he did it to show off, and didn't expect her to really understand anything (let alone do anything).

It's not necessary to have seen all the previous episodes to start watching the series now, and if you have any questions, there are many here (myself included) , that are huge fans of the series and can answer them, or give our interpreation at least. If you are a sci-fi fan, or actually even if you aren't, the mini and 33 are excellent top of the line entertainment. You can DL the episodes from Itunes (although the mini is pricy, so you may want to rent it), but if you enjoyed what you have seen so far, I would recommend at least watching those.

ah, the first episode entitled "33" is really, really, good. One of the best episodes of anything I've seen in a long time. Good call chidave.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

that was the season 2 ending.

Basically baltar was elected president, and screws things up. He's the one that allowed the nuke to be "stolen", the same nuke that went off and announced the planets presence to the cylons.

So in both cases now, Baltar is the specific individual to blame for humanity falling to the cylons.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

maybe you can find a BG primer somewhere, a list of key episodes to watch. SciFi channel had that for Farscape, cant see one for BG on their site though.

the Stargate series are in now way related to Battlestar.

The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.
--- James Clerk Maxwell

Stargate Atlantis is a spin-off of SG-1, however they are not related to Battlestar Galactica, other than the fact that they are aired on the same night.

Although, I gotta say that some of those ladies look like they're way more comfortable modeling clothes than they would be flying fighters. They don't look very rag-tag.
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

partly because nobody does

She's one of the most prominent Cylon models, the #6.

There's the one that is in baltar's head (somehow...)

There's the one that was on the Pegasus...baltar saved, and hid amongst the civilians in the fleet. This one led a resistance IIRC against the military...

There's the "original" that seduced baltar and hacked the defense net. This one was destroyed, but reincarnated in another model 6 on caprica. It's currently one of the first (of 2) "celebrity" cylons to ever exist. This particular #6 has been altered by it's interaction with baltar. I believe this is the same 6 that meets baltar on the new planet.

TV Tome have a good episode guide that should give a good idea of what has happened.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring" - Chuck Palahniuk.
