I completely agree that those things need to come first. But we've got a couple guys named Musk and Bigelow working on that, along with lots of other commercial entities.

ACCESS needs to do those things that others won't but that need to be done to become space-faring. For example, if no one is planning an Asteroid scouting mission, we need to do one.

Nearly everyone has their own personal space vision. Almost none of them match perfectly. But there's a lot of overlap. Plus, there are only so many places to go with manned missions, and Moon / Mars covers a lot of territory. Space keeners don't need another Mars society or Selene project. They need a banner to rally under, a very big tent we can all set up shop in.

...20% of the people to donate...39 million Americans.

Americans.. Americans...
You will for sure scare all not americans away by saying that...

And by the way you will never get 39 millions americans to pay...

Look at X-prize they have got plenty of media attention, but they still have problems raising enough money.

You will have to have a hell of a good plan to pull this off..
_________________________

Since you've already named the Access Space Foundation, it is silly to have two names. Your (our) organization should simply be known as the Access Space Foundation. You'll just create confusion if you have more than one name.

Hi LouisInSeattle, welcome to sdc.

The purpose behind reserving two names is in anticipation of what I expect the lawyers to tell us. I'm pretty sure that we need a non-profit and a for-profit to make this work.

Hopefully the ACCESS acronym will minimize confusion.

Voyager,

We are open to everyone who wants to offer help. It is just that in the beginning, we are targeting the American population to keep things simple.

We don't want to limit ourselves to America. I'm sorry if I made it sound that way.

You will have to have a hell of a good plan to pull this off..

Yes, we know.

. . . beyond the solar system . . .

And I thought my sights were set high! ;-)

That adventure is not on our agenda, but it'll be easier to go to another sun once we're operating in space in a big way.

I'd even settle for a commercial launch capability, and a commercial orbital station. A first step.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
