Ok I was thinking, having babies on the moon might be very difficult, the low gravity might not be very good for fetal development. I came up with a solution that involved running a train around the inside of a crater roughly 34km across with a 75deg. bank at roughly 840mph in order to have like .83g .
with the moons .17g making up the difference.

So what you got is a highspeed bullet train running in a big circle full of pregnant women , the train never stops and people get on and off the train by getting on a docking train that runs on a parrallel track. cars are removed and added to the train while it is in motion, to handle maintenance concerns.

Got that picture? now have a police woman who just started maternity leave on the train when a murder occurs, then they find out the docking train was sabbattoged, yup you guessed it there is a terrorist on the The Baby Express.

So what do you all think?
I've read about studies of pregnant mice in space and it appears that they need gravity in the developing fetus in order for cell migration to occur normally, the effects are most notable in bone structure and neurological development.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/1999/10/25/MN72875.DTL

In the above article they go into greater detail.
I'm no expert but I tend to think that the coroilus effect of short radius centerfuges would have delitrious effects on cell migration, the bigger radius the better hence the train.

The movie would be more believable if instead of a murder mystery, you have genetic mutations due to so many pregnant women exposed to space. Or better yet, because of the proximity of space to where they're at, alein technology starts to manipulate the developing babies to closer corispond into the aleins own image.

Or even stranger, because of the babies brains being so close to space, and the purity of the babies brains, they begin to pick up dreams and vision of aleins trying to communicate with them.

Just a few thoughts.
"An organism at war with itself is a doomed organism." - Carl Sagan

crazyeddie:
Too complicated and expensive.

Me:
Remember the contraption they showed in the movie "Contact"? That would probably never get built in our type of economy and it would be so technically complicated as to virtually guarantee it wouldn't get built...in the real world. But in da movies...different story.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen...and those who do not know what happened.

I Thank you for your support, I was thinking it would be a great idea for SciFi channel movie, it would be a easy to produce with very few sets and cgi of trian zipping around the airless crater, it would be also nice if SciFi channel had movies that were sensational without being physically impossible.

I think it's an excellent idea for a short story. However, there is one dangerous fact you're leaving out....

Who in their right mind would want to be on a train full of pregnant women? MY GOD! THE AGONY!
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

They would all be in one of several emotional states...

Depressed
&%$#@! <-- wt... ok fine. excited in a warm fuzzy kind of way!
Hungry

Sometimes they may be in all 3 at once.
"An organism at war with itself is a doomed organism." - Carl Sagan

Could be a good plot device but it depends on the villan's motivation. Is the terrorist(s) just out to kill people and be suicidal* while doing it ? Or is he/she looking to blackmail someone and get away ? and (get away) how ? As always you need good characters and story, hopefully more "Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" than "Atomic Train".

*suicidal ... train of pregnant women ... guess that's not a real question ... if the terrorist wasn't, he will be ... hmm could that be a plot twist ?

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

My preference for a movie would be as follows:

*It starts out with the threat of war, like ST6.
*Unlike the previous movies, the threat is something completely unknown -- but apperantly very deadly. They make the Bord look like wimps.
*However, as the movie progresses, it becomes clear to the crew (whoever), that if even one weapon -- even a Type 1 hand phaser -- is fired, the war starts ASAP.
*If the crew avoids firing, the war is averted.

So that would be sort of backwards to what everyone would expect. The crew would go in expecting to have to fight. But that is completely the opposite of the correct thing to do.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

I tend to think that the terrorist is trying to stop the train and thus cause damage to the unborn, third trimester and newborns would have a decent amount of tme to get to any orbiting stations with Centripetal gravity , or just smaller centerfuges, 2nd trimester may risk mild skelatal and neurological development till alternative gravity may be found.

The first trimester mothers will most likely stillbirth if they lose gravity.

Who is doing this? It could be one of the professional surrogates who may have a deepseeted resentment of the elitists who can't leave their jobs long enough to go through a pregnancy,
Maybe it is one of the orderlies who is found out to have contacts with the earth gov resistance movement and may think it is pointless to raise children so they can return to earth.
Could it possibly be one of the mothers of the newborns? suffering from aggravated post partum depression?

Yeah a mystery movie on board a train that must not stop.
Where the newborn and unborn cannot be moved to safety.
