The title is meant tongue-in-cheek, but I am a little annoyed that there still has not been color imagining of the Mars gullies or dark streaks by either Mars Express or Mars Odyssey:

36th Lunar And Planetary Science Conference, Abstracts on line.
http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/index.php?showtopic=680&st=15

Bob Clark

cf.:

Newsgroups: sci.astro, alt.sci.planetary, sci.astro.amateur
From: rgregorycl...@yahoo.com (Robert Clark)
Date: 4 Dec 2003 12:13:36 -0800
Local: Thurs,Dec 4 2003 3:13 pm
Subject: Color image of Mars from Mars Express.
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/sci.astro.amateur/msg/ceaf790f6aa4b68c

And the big deal is?

THEMIS isn't going to tell you anthing that MOC won't because of its m,uch lower resolution.

HRSC has imaged slope streaks although HRSC, with two visible and one near IR bands, can only produce false colour composites.

See the high res of http://search.esa.int/queryIG.html?col=mmg&ht=0&qp=&qs=&qc=&pw=100%25&ws=1&la=en&si=0&fs=&op0=%2B&fl0=ContentType%3A&ty0=p&tx0=Image&op1=%2B&fl1=category%3A&ty1=p&tx1=&op2=%2B&fl2=showcase%3A&ty2=p&tx2=SEMU775V9ED&qt=&ex=&rq=0&oq=&searchType=general&qm=0&ql=a&tipo=Image&showcase=Mars+Express&st=2&nh=1&lk=3&rf=3 for streaks (and gullies of a sort)

http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Mars_Express/SEM9YX2IU7E_1.html for gullies

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

Here's an example of what I'm looking for but in color:

Nirgal Vallis (Released 27 March 2002).
http://themis.la.asu.edu/zoom-20020327a.html

This is a *single* filter image of the gullies. But there have been many THEMIS releases of multi-filter images, just not of the gullies or dark streaks.

Bob Clark
