I know its in the middle of the week. I know it may be close to the shuttle launch. Pondering (lightly) taking my boy.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

>I have never watched a launch from Vandenberg. perhaps some day I will.
Well the next two are scheduled right up against Shuttle launches, but there's a Delta-2 launch set for mid-July. If Atlantis gets up on time for STS-121 you might be able to go see it.

If you do get out this way SG, let Me know and I'll pay for a few of those beer stories.

No one wants *my* beer stories. Of course, most of them revolve around miserable failures, so that may be why.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

Hey I'm open to any stories.

The best way to learn is from others mistakes...or miserable failures.

I'm just kidding, if I got to meet any of you, I'de buy ya a beer (If I could) and listen to your stories. I'de be interested in any stories, but I'm sorry I don't have any of my own to offer. I'm not experienced enough, but after gaining some life experience, I'll have some...I promise. (And I won't even have to make them up!)

I do remember reading an interesting perspective in Ben Rich's book on the Skunk Works, in which he talks about having worked on 20 some odd places in his career, but that todays engineers, because of longer development cycles would moe likely work on only a few...

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

I do remember that morning in June, 1999 when I got to see a missile ( a real missile, not like many of the paper missiles I had worked on before) be successful, and being able to know that I contributed in my small way to that success.

Those are the moments you live for, that keep you going through the failures and the heartbreak...

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

What a long strange trip it's been. Age tempers you, or the experience of sucsess and failure does. Lately it seems the plusses outnumber the minusses and I count my blessings. Was speaking with a customer rep last year in one of those "we know each other but not much conversations". He has been on the same program since 1987. Our contribution has only been since 1991 and will probably end in about 5 years. We have so many different things running through the lab that I don't have a chance of getting bored, which keeps the enthusiasm high. When you stop learning ya just died.
