In reply to:

Time is money.

Yes, but unfortunately the conversion rate isn't as straightforward (or favorable) as folks would like. Short-term gains can mean long-term losses ("haste makes waste"). In this case, I fear we'll end up with a less capable vehicle by going for an expedient solution. On the other hand, it may be the only way to meet the aggressive schedule. I don't know. It does bug me that schedule these days is dependent not only on engineering challenges but on politics as well; in other words, choosing the "Stick" is faster not only because it relies on existing tech, but because it'll be easier to get Congressional backing, which is unfortunate.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

ULA does not have a spacecraft. That was only when Atlas was part of Lockheed. The only manned spacecraft ULA is working is Dreamchaser.

PS. Lockheed is only working on the CEV now

In todays environment absolute statements like that can be dangerous given that they were pushing it within the last year. I could easily see a PTV option for Bigelow, especially if DC falters.

"BTW if flying people on a EELV is so simple and cheap why doesn't Boeing and LockMart just go ahead and whip up a man-rated booster and pitch it to NASA...or even to private buyers...or even sell rides directly to the public? Because its not that simple and cheap."

Duh? They are. That is what ULA is doing with Dreamchaser

"This whole thread is becomming extremely ridiculous. NASA had to make a choice and for a variety of reason they chose Ares I / Ares V. "

NASA chose EOR for Apollo before an "outside" engineer John Houbolt convinced them to do LOR . So your comments about people not happy with the stick is not warranted

ad hominems removed by JC
