The story of the Pegasus

Link.....

In reply to:

The Two-Hour Event

The special two-hour episode "Razor", which will serve as a backdrop for the events of season four of Battlestar Galactica, tells the story of Lee Adama's first mission as the commander of the battlestar Pegasus — and the harrowing tale of that ship's desperate fight for survival in the immediate aftermath of the Cylon's genocidal siege of the Twelve Colonies.

Lee Adama's new XO, Major Kendra Shaw, is plagued by memories of her service and sacrifices under Admiral Helena Cain, who was able to save her ship during the Cylon attack — but only by making Shaw and her fellow officers rationalize suicidal battle tactics and brutal war crimes against their own people.

In the crucible of war, Shaw must let her hesitation and doubts burn away, until all that remains of her is the honed edge of a living human weapon — what Colonial veterans call "a razor." But an edge so fine cuts in more than one direction. It can cleave an enemy to pieces … or it can carve away a person's soul.

The Razor Flashbacks

From October 5 through November 16, SCI FI whets Battlestar fans' appetites every Friday night with Razor Flashbacks during all-new episodes of Flash Gordon. All the flashback clips will be available on SCIFI.COM immediately after broadcast.

Written by Michael Taylor and directed by Wayne Rose and Felix Alcala, these intense, roughly two-minute segments tell the story of young William "Husker" Adama's rookie Viper mission during the first Cylon war. In addition to fighting for his very survival against relentless Cylon centurions, Adama makes a terrifying discovery that will come back 40 years later to threaten him, the crew of the Pegasus and the survival of the human race.

This isn't footage you'll se

" ...under Admiral Helena Cain, who was able to save her ship during the Cylon attack — but only by making Shaw and her fellow officers rationalize suicidal battle tactics and brutal war crimes against their own people."

Yeah, as we all know brutal war crimes and suicidal battle tactics are at the very core of military effectiveness and survival against impossible odds! Pffffffttt!!!

I was so looking to the return of the Pegasus. But then they loaded all this B.S. into the Battlestar Galactica storyline with the eeeeeevil crew of the Pegasus. That was when the show jumped the shark for me.
I liked the Pegasus story line with its evil crew.

In my opinion, generally, fictional shows have more funtional and benevolent crews on vessels than is really the case. The Captain can set the whole attitude.

I was on a US Navy ship in peacetime that initially had a wonderful captain. We then got a new captain who was essentially an evil man- it poisoned the whole atmosphere. Everyone was at each others throat. I have seen it in institutions as well.

Anyone see the movie about Enron? Same situation. These guys knew what they were doing was destroying the lives and hopes of multitudes of non-executive employees, vaporizing their life savings, but they did not care a whit.

CE - Sorry, but even BG teasers couldn't entice me to tune into Flash Gordon, that show is a bomb.

Yeah, I was excited to read that teasers would be passed out.. until I saw it was going to be during Flash Gordon. It's pretty sad when you have to get people to watch a show by showing teasers of a completely unrelated show.

I've seen commercials for Flash Gordon that tell me NOT to watch it if I want to have any respect for once hallowed Sci-Fi ground.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

<I liked the Pegasus story line with its evil crew.>

My problem wasn't the evil. Evil can make for an interesting story. The problem I had was that BSG equated evil with military effectiveness.

That proposition breaks the willing suspension of disbelief. Suicidal tactics are a recipe for self-destruction, not survival! The Cylons would have easily destroyed the Pegasus as depicted. Not only is it stupid, it's hackneyed and cliche. It's not up to the standards of the BSG mini-series - which respected it's audience.

It's even a big step down from the Commander Cain of the original BSG of 1979. That Cain was militarily effective but a risk taker and a gloryhound, cleary meant as a General MacArthur type character. That character was interesting.

The new BSG with evil Cain and evil Pegasus is a bore and a snore.

I always thought the original Cain was a bit more like Patton, myself. But yeah, that's the kind of guy he was.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

The commander of the Pegasus is just HOT as Hell and looks much better as a human than a Beijoran in ST DS9, but this whole Galactica thing just has gone the wrong way for me, personally.

"2012.. Wont watch it. I didn't like the new BSG so why would I want to watch a spinoff of it?

I have an answer for everything...you may not like the answer or it may not satisfy your curiosity..but it will still be an answer.
"Imagination is more important then Knowledge" ~Albert Einstien~
Guns dont kill people. Spoiler alert.

Just saw it.

They jerked around too much, I think from "present" to the past when Pegasus was doing regrettable deeds.

I wish they had just stayed in the past for that episode, instead of jumping forward to show how those past events were relevant.

The story was told from the other perspective, with some effort at humanizing Cain and justifying attrocities.

In addition, as the story was told, I think the initial decision to use the Pegasus to fight the Cylons for revenge was a criminal one, and makes all the following, supporting bad acts even worse, since they were done to support something that should not have been done.

As the story was told, they had zero possibility of winning a protracted war with the Cylons.

They should have just run as far as they could, and hope that there were enough breeders on board to restart the human race. Failing that, when they came upon other survivors, they should have sent them off with the same purpose, at least some of them.

I made sure to watch it. I was impressed. It was better than I expected it to be. I too wished they had stayed more in the past though. But, they probably needed to set the stage for the upcoming season and give people a good refresher on the crew.

SPOILER ALERT (Highlight the section below to read.)

But, what made it for me were the old-school original Cylons! As soon as I saw a brief glimpse of an old Cylon Raider I couldn't keep from getting all giddy about it. I loved the old-school Cylons. Even though they weren't exactly guys clanking around in costumes, they did a pretty good job at giving the feel for them. It's about time we saw some old First War Cylons clunking around!

I put on my robe and wizard hat...

I'm sure they will. But, if they don't or you miss the next one then they've got a special edition BG-Razor DVD coming out in the next week or so. (It could be out already.) It's supposed to have more scenes and all the traditional DVD bells and whistles. I'm considering buying it.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Personally, I prefer the "Re-imagined" Galactica to the original series, hands down. This one seems all-too-real. The original seemed like a tepid joke.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Original Balthazar = Villian from a Pantomime

new Balthazar = FULL METAL JACKET WHACKO IN A SPACESHIP!

The two programmes are chalk and cheese, where the CHALK is wrapped around gold and diamonds, and the CHEESE is scraped with an aids infected needle, from the nasty bits of a goth chick . . . an UGLY goth chick.

Spoiler from long past. (Do we need to spoiler, say, the Bible, or is that considered fairly well the past tense of entertainment?. When we talk of the original shows, do we have to spoiler?.)

I recently saw the scene where Gais is called to the bridge, to face an accusation from the copy of his mental lady-love. The sheer perfecting of his reaction when he realised she was visible to the officiers on the bridge, was pants wettingly brilliant.

From mcbeth:
"They jerked around too much, I think from "present" to the past when Pegasus was doing regrettable deeds.

I wish they had just stayed in the past for that episode, instead of jumping forward to show how those past events were relevant."

Actually, they all were past events. Remember, the Pegasus was destroyed so the flash forwards to Captain Adama were well in the past of the present (redudant, aint it).

I liked the whole Razor thing but the SciFi channel is REALLLLLLLY starting to erk me. 2 Hour show after waiting 8 months to see only to find out I have to wait another 4 months for the next series. COMMON SCIFI, get with it and let us enjoy the dang series!

In their defense (hard to do, admittedly), they have been partially affected by the Writer's strike. I'd read that they only have 4 episodes of season four completed.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
