Estimate the age of a blackhole, perhaps. The black holes with millions of solar mass have likely been large for billions of years. Black holes with almost no accretion disk are likely more than a thousand years old, but we have not detected any black holes with almost no accretion disk, mostly because they are almost undetectable except dangerously close. Lots of accretion disk could be young or old. Neil

I know of no way to calculate the age of a black hole. You can make some educated guesses, like supermassive black holes are very old, probably as old as thier parent galaxy. That's about it that I know of. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p align="center"><font color="#c0c0c0"><br /></font></p><p align="center"><font color="#999999"><em><font size="1">--------</font></em></font><font color="#999999"><em><font size="1">--------</font></em></font><font color="#999999"><em><font size="1">----</font></em></font><font color="#666699">SaiphMOD@gmail.com </font><font color="#999999"><em><font size="1">-------------------</font></em></font></p><p><font color="#999999"><em><font size="1">"This is my Timey Wimey Detector.  Goes "bing" when there's stuff.  It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually.  I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- </font></em></font><font size="1" color="#999999">The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"</font></p> </div>
