Replying to:

...On a more general note: I just LOVE the way Marvel Studios is integrating the mythologies of their movies.
Posted by docm

I agree completely!

What I really would love to see is an effort to place some of the characters within shared plotlines. Some of that happened in the comics and there were many outright meetings and cooperative/conflicting efforts between main-line characters. In fact, my favorite of all the comics, probably because it's the most memorable to me, is "The Secret Wars" series. Everybody was there!

(I actually wasn't a "kid" when I read those but, the impact brought me back into comic reading for a time.) Imagine all those comic book icons sharing the same screen, played by the same actors that we enjoy so much in their individual efforts! (Of course, they have quite a few more comic book heroes to go through!) I think some of the actors would be a little miffed about being upstaged a bit too often. But, whatever.. it's interesting to think about.

I haven't been a big comic book fan for ages. However, when I learned Captain America died, tears came to my eyes. Especially since several made the comment "We really need him right now." I spent not just a few hours working on a artistic project to commemorate the event. But, it was too controversial for me to post it and I was afraid too many would take it the wrong way. Maybe, enough time has passed that I can fine-tune it and present it? I dunno, it still chokes me up. Cap was a hero of mine when I was a kid and he was a hero for all the "right" reasons. One of John Steakley's passages in "Armor" sums up my vision of Captain America now and when I was a child:

"He's the best of us. The best of our best, the best that each of us will ever build or ever love. So pray for this Guardian of our growth and choose him well, for if he be not truly blest, then our designs are surely frivolous and our future but a tragic waste of hope. Bless our best and adore for he doth bear our measure to the Cosmos." - John Steakley, Armor, p. 62

(I wish Steakley would publish more. He has a great style.)

I put on my robe and wizard hat...
