First off, he hasn't said which comet. Usually known comets are numbered and named. The one comet I'm aware of right now is one called Swan. That one is not on a collision course with earth.

He hasn't shown any calculations, trajectories, etc. Other astronomers the world over would be able to verify this if it were true.

Back in May, someone named Eric Julien predicted the earth would be hit by fragments of a comet that had broken up. A comet with a lengthy name which I'll just call SW here. I'd seen images of that one and could tell it wasn't going to hit earth. I also described why fragments would not hit the earth on the day he said they would, which IIRC was May 29th of this year.

Here we still are.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Thought I should mention that there is already a thread that deals with this subject in the "Ask The Astronomer"
forum under the "Hi I'm new" thread.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Thanks for the moment of levity. The article is sprinkled with coments like "a giant comet flying at top speed," and "we should pay attention to this suspicious celestial body," even citing august scientific models as in "see the 1998 movie Armageddon for further references."

I'll probably sleep better after this news. Laughter is the best medecine, my friend.

I wish I could remember
But my selective memory
Won't let me - Mark Oliver Everett

"see the 1998 movie Armageddon for further references."

LOL Well we've nothing to worry about then. Just send Bruce Willis up there and he'll sort things out. Just watch our for space dementia, oh and don't take any high powered machine guns with you - they're not really necessary.

In addition, the astronomer who suggested it has not reported the data to the CBAT (clearinghouse for new discoveries) and was also a consultant for Jim Jones in Jonestown, the guy who induced his followers to "drink the kool-aid"
Not exactly stellar (or even cometary) credentials.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. What? You mean Armageddon is not based on factual astronomy or spaceflight? All this time I thought Bruce Willis "Moonlighted" as an astronaut.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Ever see the movie Die Hard or Armageddon? Bruce Willis was the main actor. He played a cop in Die Hard and played an astronaut in Armageddon.

He can't save us.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. "Bruce Willis will certainly save us. "

It's too bad about France though. I hope comet fragments don't trash the wine-making regions.

Did France get hit in "armageddon"?

Bruce Willis has acted it out, he knows what to. At least according to Pravda. This is a movie of great scientific significance. See it, learn it and don't worry.

Suppose this guy is right, then we can be lucky enough to laugh hard at the moment of peril.

Wrong!

Bruce Willis was so convincing in Armageddon that the truth is, he is our ONLY hope. It couldn't all be acting, some of it had to be he knew what he was doing. We just gotta get him gehind the stick of a space shuttle and see what he can do, then he'll prove all you doubters home.

Bruce Willis has this thing down like clock work. Take off, land on space station, take off from space station bfore it explodes, land on asteroid, blow said asteroid up, then return to Earth, and all in the time it takes to play I Don't Wanna Close MY Eyes by Aerosmith.

Hakkuna Mattata, it means no worries.

You wanna talk some jive?
