My opinion is that the world's developed governments are giving short shrift to proactively detecting asteroids and comets which could do significant damage on Earth, (or possibly inflict extinction at species, genus or family levels). One exception appears to be China. The hesitancy appears to be due to costs and underestimating the reality by politicians focused on agendas..
