I know that the astronauts have been using HF (ham radio) to talk to loved ones and others, but do the chaps up there use the WWW? Wouldn't they have a stand alone (for security) PC connected to the Web? Using software such as netmeeting would be better that ham radio surely?
I'm sure this question would have been asked before, but for some horrible reason known to us all, it can't be searched
Thanks in advance EBM.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

Thanks SG, its damn good to see you and the rest of the brain squad back. It wouldn't be the same in here if we no longer had the people here with their finger on the pulse.
PS .. It must be very interesting working at KSC whoops, nearly wrote KFC

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

I asked this question when I went to JSC. Supposively the ISS has a great broadband connect ( Milstar satellite I think ). However once an email is sent home, I'm not sure how it goes through JSC.

I'm guessing here, but i don't think they have a connection to the actual web, otherwise they would probadly be posting here too.
Also they would get into all sorts of trouble, being alone up there and having all that porn at their finger tips

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

Yeap, I think everyone here would like that kind of a job. I would too...though I am a biz major who is looking to go on and get my MBA, last I checked not that many cool jobs for MBAs in Nasa

I got lucky in that Rockwell wanted some "new blood".

I'm obviously quite a rookie and no expert, but one thing I couldn't help but notice was the truth in the numbers of the aging work force. All of my counterparts are my parents' age.

Point is, everyone looking to get their foot in the door, I think there is going to be alot of good opportunities available in the near future. SG, feel free to smack me if I'm wrong.

Heh. If they have internet access up there I hope they got Norton! it would be quite bothersome to get sasser worm.

As for getting a space related career , I'm really interested in satellite/space probe production and programming since I pretty much stink at engineering and math, the two most important factors in getting a job at the Aerospace industry and I DEFINTLY don't have the body of an astronaut, Besides who knows, I might be designing the next Cassini or Galileo
Hey, dont worry. I suck at math too. Didnt have any problems until I hit Calculus. Bleh!! Anyway... despite my lack of math skills, I still managed to land a pretty kick ass job in the aerospace industry. Granted, I'm not working on things that go into space, but a super sonic fighter aircraft being designed by multiple countries for multiple countries and services with STOVL capability is pretty damn cool, so I'm happy as a clam

Thanks, If math skills are not that important then I might have a chance at getting in aerospace after all!
working with fighter aircraft is quite cool in itself but working with super sonic jets now THATS nice!

That's cool. I definitely want to work in manned spaceflight if at all possible, I know it's a considerably more limited field than robotics, but it is what I am by far most interested in. I was horrible at math until the 6th grade until suddenly I wasn't anymore. That was also the year I became interested in space. Coincidence? Not likely My primary weakness was that I was horrible, absolutely horrible, at high school science. I barely passed chemistry, twice, and both times were on a technicality. I'm hoping that I will be slightly better at college science because I do want to be an engineer, and I don't want to let stupid chemistry keep me from it
