Just saw this on MarkCarey.com/mars/ :

Google Earth Community Structures look-a-like on Mars.
http://www.marsroverblog.com/discuss-29655-google-earth-community-structures-lookalike-on-mars.html

Structures look-a-like on Mars.
http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php/Cat/0/Number/87439/an/0/page/1

Click on the "View in Google Earth" and "View in Google Maps" links to see aerial photos of Sahara desert analogs of the "spiders" seen on Mars.
Anyone have any idea what is the origin of the Sahara features?

Bob Clark

I hate to take a cue from a book or movie, but how about C02 or some other gas trapped in a subsurface pocket, and then erupting suddenly?

Just chiming in.

[return to lurking mode]

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

That is the proposed explanation that has been published by NASA scientists for the Mars features.
That would not explain the Sahara features though.

Bob Clark

In the case of the Sahara features, it could be the work of the decay of organisms buried - deceased animals, biomass, what have you.

Just a thought.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
