extended missions?

almost all nasa missions live past their estimated mission life and the missions are continued and cost money and can start to interfrere with upcomming mission budgets so what should be done about some extended missions

Missions are only extended if there is the funding available. It would be highly unusual for an upcoming mission to have funding cut in order to enable an extended mission of an older one.
