The Omen (the seventies one)

Alien and Aliens (the rest suck)

The ultra contrived death scenes in Final Exit 1 and 2 were good.

Viewed as a time travel entry, Memento is incomparable.

Best 'creepy' aliens (as opposed to 'scary') would be the ones in Dark City.

The movie that does the best job of making human beings seem alien would be David Cronenberg's Crash (not the Crash that did best picture last year)

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Not so sure I would consider Memento a time travel movie... just a unique way of unraveling the storyline. Fantanstic movie, btw. Have you seen Primer? Low budget, but unique way of looking at time travel.

Combining both genres, I would 2nd Vogon's pick of Alien. I also like Jurassic Park if you consider dino's as monsters.

Stand alone Sci-fi: Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, 2001, but If I had to pick only 1, I would go with Contact.

Good old fashioned monster movie? Kinda hard to pick as I'm not a huge fan, but The Fly (Goldblum remake) was cool, though that's a bit of a sci-fi/monster combo. Can I pick Silence of the Lambs?... Lecter was quite the monster.

"If something's hard to do, then it's not worth doing." - Homer Simpson

Lector/Hopkins does an excellent job of being what they call in wrestling parlance (yes, I am falling back on a pro wrestling term for sci fi here) - a "cool heel".

Hopkins pulls it off much better than the other guy who played Lector in "Manhunter"

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

Memento is certainly open to interpretation.

I saw it as time itself messing with Mr. Shelby.

There is a Star Trek: Voyager episode with a character that feels time is out to thwart his plans to resurrect a lost wife.

Just like the time travel genre and thought Memento could be looked at as a particularly bizarre entry into a category already rife with oddiments.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Gamera! The rocket-propelled, 300 meter-long flying turtle from outer space is my favorite.

Started my science fiction interest on monster movies. My childhood favs were "The Creature from the black lagoon trilogy, Beast from 20,000 fathoms, Forbidden Planet.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. The final episode of MST3K made a reference to "The Crawling Eye", right at the end of the show. I somehow think they covered that one.

Tammy Faye Bakker in full 1980s makeup! Stephen King himself couldn't think of anything so terrifying!

Yeah, as sci-fi movies go, I'd have to say "The Empire Strikes Back" is really my favorite.

But Gamera's still my favorite movie monster.
