Pluto has three moons now; Charon, S/2005 P1 and S/2005 P2. The latter two desperately need names. Let's have some fun and think some up!

As a reference, here are links listing names that have already been used:

Named Minor Planets
The Nine Planets
Jupiter's Known Satellites
Saturn's Known Satellites
Uranus' Known Satellites
Neptune's Known Satellites

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

Erebus and Nyx! The parents of Charon in greek mythology.

Unfortunately Nyx is already used, so it should be Styx instead, the river of wich Charon ferried the dead soules over.

If it was just one moon, I would suggest Cerberus, the guardian dog of the underworld (this would be ok sizewise also ).
However we have two moons, so .... maybe we should go with two of the rivers that surrounded the underworld.
The Acheron (river of woe), The Cocytus (river of lamentation), The Phlegethon (river of fire), The Styx (river of unbreakable oath by which the gods swear), and The Lethe (river of forgetfulness).

Acheron and Lethe would be my guesses, based on phonetics mainly. (Styx is already taken by a rock band )
I feel better than James Brown.

Oooh, I like that.

A companion to Cerberus could be Garm. Garm is another mythical hound, but he guards the entrance to Niflheim, the Norse version of the underworld.

EDIT: Shoot, looks like Cerberus is taken by a minor planet. Perhaps to accompany Garm we could have Naglfar, the dead man's nail ship?

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

In reply to:

Mnemosyme

Ooh, I like that one! I especially like the idea of newscasters trying to pronounce it. (I had the displeasure of watching "Discoveries this Week" absolutely butcher the pronunciation of Dione. They called it "DEE-on", if you can believe that.)

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

I guess, the name should be appealing one to Disney, since they had named their cartoon character after Pluto. Today we are naming most of the features on Mars and else where after Disney character.

They did not use Charon. Lets hope the names of the new satellites are something pleasant and also liked by children.
My initial gut reaction was Orpheus and Heracles, living souls who crossed the Styx, but the minor planets have those already. I suppose I could settle for Elysium and Tartarus, the heaven and hell of the Underworld.

Thanks for the links to used names

(Styx is already taken by a rock band )

So what?

They would probably appreciate it.

If it was named Lethe, students would forget it's name.

I would go with Styx and Phlegethon.
