I'm so glad to hear it was a successful launch. Although I had nothing whatsoever to do with GLAST, the company I work for did, and so it's nice to hear of the success.

Besides, it'll be an awesome instrument.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

GLAST has now been comissioned and calibarted, and has taken it's first all sky look at the Universe at high energy.

It has been renamed Fermi, in honor of Enrico Fermi.

"Enrico Fermi was the first person to suggest how cosmic particles could be accelerated to high speeds," said Paul Hertz, chief scientist for NASA's Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington.
Rats! I had submitted the name "Asimov" to the GLAST-naming competition. Fermi is more appropriate, though.

Still, glad to hear first light went well.
