The ring makes the costume so changes over time and between Green Lanterns (and species) has been the norm, and this one looks very 'organic'. Other designs below....

Re: Green Lantern's costume revealed

I like it. At least, from what I can see of it. As long as it stays within the flavor of the mythos, I'm cool with it.

Re: Green Lantern's costume revealed

Just for the record: I recommend Green Lantern: First Flight as a primer to those not steeped in the mythos of the Green Lantern Corps. Very good, and not little kiddie level either.

Initial posters are up....

GL beginners note that anything with the color yellow cannot be affected by a Green Lantern's constructs due to a yellow impurity in their rings master battery on the Guardians homeworld of Oa, though other color lanterns (ex: the Star Sapphires) don't have the same weakness. The name "Green Lantern" comes from the first civilizations police force, whose members carried a green lantern to light their way. The Guardians named their interstellar police force to honor them.

The poster texts are parts of the Green Lantern's oath;

In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

Krona is in the movie.

Krona was an Oan before they were known as The Guardians.

The Oans were immortal and had a science-based Utopia. Krona, however, 'bit the apple' by creating a ship that would enable him to see the very origins of the universe. Doing this caused the universe to fragment into a multiverse, among other things.

The surviving Oans became The Guardians – first creating the Manhunters and then the Green Lantern Corps. They also scared away their females, who became the Zamarons and, later, the Star Sapphires.

Word is coming out of New Orleans (filming location of GL) that GL2 and GL3 are already being planned and would be shot back-to-back for release 1 year apart. GL2 would follow the downfall of Sinestro, so presumably GL3 would cover the Sinestro Corps War in some form.

Principal photography has ended after 5 months of shooting. Several more months of rendering remains given its unprecedented number of F/X shots - even more than Avatar

(Emphasis added.)

Even more? Is that a good thing?

I haven't seen Avatar, I admit. I don't particularly have much of a desire to see it except from the point of view of a hobbyist taking a critical look at some of the effects work.

But, I hope we aren't going to see another "Special Effects Movie" that happens to have characters in it and maybe a little bit of story, if you look hard enough. Granted, it is a sci-fi movie and due to the nature of Green Lantern, a bit more special effects are going to be needed in order to bring it off for the fans. Green Lantern doesn't just slug it out with the baddies... he materializes giant green hammers and knocks their houses down.. So, I'll still keep my fingers crossed that there's a good bit of story mixed in with all the CGI.

A properly done GL that includes the Corps by default will need that many F/X shots - no real way to avoid them. We'll see about the script, but with Martin Campbell directing (Casino Royale, Golden Eye, Legend/Mask of Zorro, Homicide: Life on the Street) things look promising.

Don't want to do too many leaked spoilers, but it appears that Star Sapphire will make an appearance in Green Lantern. Hopefully her costume will be as, ahem, 'brief' as in the comics ;)

John Stewart, Earth's other Green Lantern, is in the film and will be played by up and comer Nick Jones, a former Marine (perfect for Stewart) who has 5 films in post-production, though GL is by far the biggest. Pic of him with Ryan Reynolds -
