If you didn't catch The Universe tonight on History Channel, I strongly recommend catching the reruns. Tonight's episode is "The Milky Way" - it's awesome. Best episode I've caught. Graphics are stunning (even more than usual) and covers a lot of stuff I've seen bandied about here lately.

Definitely recommended.

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

I got to watch the first half of it before it was bedtime for my daughter. It was truly one of the better ones IMO. Any idea when re-runs will be happening?

That's interesting that they sell it that way!

I've ordered the DVDs.

I'm bumping this so I remember to search Comcast's database for reruns when I get home...

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

I bet it was a rerun. I watched most all the science program there was...I just don't know where to buy the video for my collection...
We are born. We live. We experiment. We rot. We die. and the whole process starts all over again! Imagine That!

No. At the time it was listed in the Comcast channel-guide as "New (2007)"

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

Crazyeddie do you know of any other documentries that go deeper? I love all the documentaries but some of them bug me due to the fact they go over some of the same subject matter again and again.

I like the Universe series and have, I think, watched each segment at least once.

Its just that whenever Michio Kuku appears on a segment, I have this over-riding urge to kick in the screen. Instead I just change the channel !!

yeah the only time I really see PBS run Nova programs is early mornings and the occasional showings at night.

I agree that it doesn't delve as deeply as I might like. But it's also fun to "follow along". They give you an overview, and you watch it with a laptop on your lap. Hear something you didn't know? Look it up, bookmark it, and revisit it later. I've actually learned a fair bit on several topics by hearing them gloss over something I didn't know, and then employ the "interactivity" that I suggest. I'm not looking to be spoon-fed. I don't have a problem "doing the work".

.

bipartisan (bī-pär'tĭ-zən, -sən) [Adj.] Maintaining the ability to blame republications when your stimulus plan proves to be a devastating failure.

IMPEACH OBAMA!

The PBS Nova website is really good. You can watch the "Elegant Universe" series on it.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html

_______________________________________________
SpeedFreek

crazyeddie, about what you said with them always showing things blowing up or crashing together, i agree. I remember the first few episodes of the first season they tried to fit in doomsday scenerio's in almost every episode.

The fancy CGI and explosions were to be expected. The only real issue I had was showing an explosion every time the big bang was mentioned. Far too misleading.

"If something's hard to do, then it's not worth doing." - Homer Simpson

I like the program myself. Yes, it's geared more towards the general public rather than the educated, and the knowledgeable enthusiast, but I'm all for any program or series that exposes the masses to science even if its not wholly technically accurate

One thing I'd like to see out of shows like these is ten seconds just before commercial breaks that point viewers to Internet sources "for more information".

"2012.. Year of the Dragon!! Get on the Dragon Wagon!".
