How many "decks" would a CEV capsule have?

OK. They are more rows of couches than "decks" like with STS. However, that still helps visuals how much room would be inside. The 3D cutaway drawings that I saw are hard to use in the same regard. Also, how many seats for each "deck?"

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

I think two decks at most, 130 inche height won't allow much of a third deck. Two maybe three seats in the upper deck and perhaps six lower. I'm just guessing at this point and to keep weight down, decks separated by an aluminum bulkhead probably won't be utilized due to the additional mass of the bulkhead. The cabin will probably have to accomodate space designated for stowage that could otherwise be used for a seat or two.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. One crew deck with stowage drawers under the cabin 'floor' & fold away webbed seats.

Thanks. I'd seen images of the cabin layout awhile back but wasn't sure if thats the cabin config they went with.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. The cabin arangement is still very much still in the air. I've seen pictures with two "decks" and pictures (like the most recent ones) where everyone is sitting on the "floor". Don't think too hard on it, it'll probobly change again next week.

So, again we are defeated. The best I can tell from some of the interior shots of the Lockheed-Martin mockup is a slightly hexagonal seat arrangement. That is 4 seats laid out in a simple square pattern plus one additional seat on either side of the square set midway.

Has NASA done a trade on how much money we will save on these lunar missions if we use jockeys as astronauts and shrink the CEV, SM and LSAM accordingly?

If we use midgets, could we just go with the Atlas Phase 1?

Why stop there? Why not double-amputee midgets?

The question of Astronaut size has often been a curiosity to me. With the pound-to-orbit cost always a contentious issue, I've been mildly surprised at the relatively varied range of Astronaut sizes we see from NASA. I'd imagine weight is more stringently 'policed' than height appears to be in flight crews, though I don't imagine Shaq will be getting his call-up papers anytime soon.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Acrobats and gymnasts were considered by NASA for its first crop of astronauts. Exactly for fitting into cramped and awkward cockpits.
