Last week I saw what looked like three stars moving together in a triangular form. I assume they were satellites but I have never seen more than one moving at a time.

Anyone know what it was?

Nothing to worry about lewcos, probably just another three point of light ufo

Seriously, i doubt that it would be satellites flying in formation. Were any of the lights blinking?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

No - it wasn't anything within our atmosphere - it looked and moved exactly like a satellite but there were three of them separated by a good distance.

It looked like if you had a rectangle with the four corners lit up but one corner bulb was out. (that was the shape)

I look at the stars a lot and know the difference between stars, satellites, and aircraft.

Luckily my wife was outside with me and I showed her - so I have a witness.

No worries mate. Just one question, how could you tell that is wasn't in our atmosphere? I'm not trying to knock your sighting, its just that altitude is differcult to estimate. Do you think it was a solid triangle or three seperate craft travelling together?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

Perhaps it was an airplane flying low, and you saw one light on each wing and one in the front or back? But then you must have been temporarily deaf or something to not hear that it was a plane.

Perhaps it was someone trying out some lasers, I've been fooled by that once. I saw several spots of lights (looked like satellites) going back and forth over the sky in high speed, and I though "wow!", but the next day I read in the newspaper that some scientists nearby had been trying out some powerful lasers. Sigh...

Well - they were moving exactly as a satellite would - slow and deliberate. It wasn't an airplane - that much I am sure of - could it have been lasers? I suppose but I have very good vision and I would swear it was a satellite.

The distance between the satellites was approximately two full moons on the long end and one full moon on the short end.

There are some Naval observatory (NOSS) satellites that move in the triangular formation you mention. If they were NOSS, they would have been fairly dim, probably no more than mag 5.5 - 6 or so. They would have been travelling in a right triangle formation looking kind of like this:

.........................
...*....................
.........................
...*...............*...
.........................
Direction of motion - />

Is this what you saw?

If so, it was almost surely NOSS. You can look at www.heavens-above.com to get pass predictions on the various NOSS (and any other) satellites out there. If you know your observing location and time you saw them, you can even confirm that there should have been a NOSS pass at that time.

Scott

This is interesting, likely the same thing. I sent an email to L. David, maybe he can investigate a possible connection.

Silent Running: 'Black Triangle' Sightings on the Rise

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=96&e=1&u=/space/20040902/sc_space/silentrunningblacktrianglesightingsontherise

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

Funny thing about the article is that I didn't see any mention of possible satellites or whether they even investigated that possibility.

People want to believe in UFO's I guess.
