Incidentally, the similarities to "Forbidden Planet" in "Face of Evil" were almost certainly intentional. The phrase in the movie was "monsters of the id", and that's basically what the rampaging entites are. But it is only a passing similarity -- overall, the story is quite different, and knowing "Forbidden Planet" won't really give you any spoilers at all. (But it will make you really wonder what's going on when you first get a look at what the invisible monsters actually look like.)

Incidentally, I believe they used a similar technique for the visualization of the monsters as was used in "Forbidden Planet". At least, the effect comes across in a similar way, which is worth noting.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
