I never thought of it before, but you hit the nail right on the head. MST3K could have had a field day with ID. I remember looking forward to ID, from the few promos I saw back then I had high hopes that the movie would be good. Unfortunately, hope faded quickly once the movie started. I hate to admit it, but it was one of the few movies that I walked out on before the end(I have since watched it through, so I know what happens). When Goldblum announced his "virus' solution, I gave it up. "Suspension of disbelief" is needed sometimes in order to enjoy speculative movies. but I couldn't quiet manage it in ID. Funny, no problems believing that an alien race could show up and be ready to wipe us out without any warning or attempts at negotiation, but I couldn't believe that someone could make an Apple/Mac whatever talk to an alien O/S and give it a virus. Kinda took a lot out of the movie for me, but I guess if they hadn't used that idea, then no one would have liked the inevitable destruction of the human race. Most like a feel good ending, I guess.
