Stuff like Russel's younger son having a chronic inherited disease that killed their mother, which is why he got sick in the camper & in the xcut had to be carried into Area 51 etc; that his older son wanted to take the kids to live with a sober uncle; that Goldblums father is the one who figured out her cell phone number; that Will Smiths girlfriend had the kid & dog in the club office while she danced then quit her job on the way out and a few other things. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

I admit I like the movie. *slams head against monitor* It was a fun bit of nonsence with cool special effects and I like anything with Brent Spiner looking like an old hippie freak then being offed by an alien <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

When I saw <i>Independence Day</i>, I kept wishing that <i>Mystery Science Theater 3000</i> was still on the air.<br /><br />Between poking fun at that movie and <i>Armageddon</i>, Joel or Mike and the robots could have made me laugh for years.<br /><br />P.S. Edited for clarity.

I never thought of it before, but you hit the nail right on the head. MST3K could have had a field day with ID. I remember looking forward to ID, from the few promos I saw back then I had high hopes that the movie would be good. Unfortunately, hope faded quickly once the movie started. I hate to admit it, but it was one of the few movies that I walked out on before the end(I have since watched it through, so I know what happens). When Goldblum announced his "virus' solution, I gave it up. "Suspension of disbelief" is needed sometimes in order to enjoy speculative movies. but I couldn't quiet manage it in ID. Funny, no problems believing that an alien race could show up and be ready to wipe us out without any warning or attempts at negotiation, but I couldn't believe that someone could make an Apple/Mac whatever talk to an alien O/S and give it a virus. Kinda took a lot out of the movie for me, but I guess if they hadn't used that idea, then no one would have liked the inevitable destruction of the human race. Most like a feel good ending, I guess.

Ya know sometimes people just over analyze things. Movies are just that movies. They are made for entertainment nothing else. If you want to analyze something on TV then go watch a documentary. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <font color="#ffff00"><p><font color="#3366ff">I have an answer for everything...you may not like the answer or it may not satisfy your curiosity..but it will still be an answer.</font> <br /><font color="#ff0000">"Imagination is more important then Knowledge" ~Albert Einstien~</font> <br /><font color="#cc99ff">Guns dont kill people. I read the book before the movie - yeah, dork - and I guess a lot of stuff from the book would be in this cut. I know the ending in the book had the drunk cropduster fly his biplane in the belly of a ship with a nuke, and I think this was actually filmed.<br />Also in the book there were a lot more aircraft types than F15s flying out of Edwards to battle the aliens. Which I thought was really cool, but didn't show up in the movie. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p>http://asteroid-invasion.blogspot.com</p><p>http://www.solvengineer.com/asteroid-invasion.html </p><p> </p> </div>
