I'd like to start hunting meteorites, and my preliminary research has revealed that a halfway decent metal detector is invaluable.... So anyone have suggestions?

White's metal detectors seem to be very good. Yhey are the ones you see out in the field.<br /><br /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font color="#ff0000"><strong>TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!</strong></font></p><p><font color="#339966"><strong>So many people, so few recipes !!</strong></font></p><p><font color="#0000ff"><strong>Let's clean up this stinkhole !!</strong></font> </p> </div>

Is this really a viable hobby? I live in Arizona and figured there are a few billion tiny bee-bee sized meteorites around Meteor Crater and its surrounds. Phoenix is closer, but not sure what kind of concentration there is.

I use a metal detector when I am gold mining to find concentrations or pockets of ore. Any prospecting shop carries them new, and ebay has quite a few used.
