Moon Rainbows ???

<p>Evening, All !!!</p><p>Maybe someone can tell me what I'm seeing.&nbsp; Tonight, right now, I'm seeing a circular rainbow around the almost full moon.&nbsp; Not a halo, mind you ... a rainbow.&nbsp; I wear corrective lenses, but I'm seeing this both with my glasses on and off.&nbsp; The outermost ring is red, the middle ring is green, and the inner ring looks blue.&nbsp; Funny thing is ... I don't see this when I look at the moon through my binoculars.&nbsp; Does anyone know why?&nbsp; By the way, I'm in the Southeast region of the country, and it's a pretty clear night ...</p><p>Thanks,</p><p>Sally </p>

The diagram derekmcd has posted is exactly what you saw.</strong></font></p><p><font size="2"><strong>Lunar Rainbows DO exist & I saw one in Wales in the UK (in one of the very few areas not blighted by light pollution). It was in April 1990, typical April showers that continued well into the night. The moon was&nbsp;just past full in the east, Astronomical twilight had already ended&nbsp;about an hour earlier&nbsp;& in the west a large shower cumulus was dumping rain to the west. Lo & behold a rainbow by moonlight was visible. It was strange, it was the same shape & size as the daytime one, but it looked silvery as the eye is not sensitive enough to differentiate the colours. Through binoculars, the colours were visible.</strong></font></p><p><font size="2"><strong>See below. Moon Rainbow in Hawaii.
