Question Motion during the gravitational force between two different sized of planets (Earth and moon)

If there is only a gravitational force between two body so why asteroid can collide to the planet but moon can't touch?
As the other post said the moons orbit holds the moon at a distance just like we orbit satellites around earth. It balances gravity out with forward speed.
While asteroids can get effected by the gravity of earth and the moon to pull it into a crash. As they are traveling around in free space interacting with all the gravity producing objects in our solar system.

so imagine the asteroid is the earth in this video.
And the moons orbit works just how the earths and the suns does, in this video forward speed balances out gravity’s effect.
