In reply to:

Where is the video of the first launch first stage shutting down and the vehicle impacting the island and where is the video of the 2nd flight second stage shutting down?

Not available because it has been shutdown which is censoring.

Where is the value in seeing that on video? They admitted to the failures in writing. Video costs money. No censorship. Actually you may be confusing Public Relations with communist style censorship....not the same.

"SCE to AUX" - John Aaron, curiosity pays off

Double superduper secret video of Falcon 1 maiden flight crashing.

On Board Rocket Camera

Shhh, don't tell anybody that SpaceX has this video on their website!!!

.

Never roll in the mud with a pig. "Not so, they shut down the video once a problem developed. "

They showed it through first stage shutdown, showed the first stage impacting the 2nd stage rocket nozzle, and showed the increasing oscillations in attitude during second stage flight.

It seems likely that the video feed was lost because the attitude fluctuations caused the signal to be lost becaause of interference from the rocket body.

I (and many others here on SDC) watched the whole thing live.

Are you calling us all liars Jim?

Maybe you should watch the next launch live like the rest of us. You might learn something.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. Here's my comment on the live webcast
"Circular cyclic rotation, and VERY hot engine housings before webcast was lost... In fact, I have nominated the Falcon 1.1 (Launch 2) threads for archiving.

To vote, see the archiving thread in S&A.

MW

But the Krell forgot one thing John. 1. There is more video than what was shown on the net. It had nothing to attitude fluctuations or interference from the rocket body. The internet broadcast was intentionally cutoff. The "missing" video shows the engine cutoff and tumbling (more than just the roll)
2. Where are the gound video of the "whole" 1st launch? Many were taken.

And you know the internet video was intentionally cutoff how?

But the Krell forgot one thing John. There is more video than what was shown on the net.

And you know the internet video was intentionally cutoff how?

He can't know that it was intentionally cutoff, he just wants to appear like he has inside info.

The statement from SpaceX on March 27, 2007 said;

Telemetry shows that engine shutdown occurred only about a minute and a half before schedule (roughly T + 7.5 mins), due to the oscillations causing propellant to slosh away from the sump. When the liquid level in the tank was low, this effectively starved the engine of propellant. A disproportionate amount of the velocity gain occurs in the final few minutes of flight, when the stage is very light, which is why the velocity difference is greater than just linearly subtracting 1.5 mins from the burn time.

Except for a few blips here and there, we have now cleaned up the raw data feed and recovered video and telemetry for the entire mission well past 2nd stage shutdown. Including all the launch pad video and ground support equipment data, we have somewhere close to a terabyte of information to review. This was far too much to send over the T1 satellite link from Kwaj and had to be brought over in person after the flight.

SpaceX is very open about what they got right & what they got wrong. If you want info, all you need to do is go to their website.

.

Never roll in the mud with a pig. Exactly, they had said immediately after that it would take some time to reconstruct the data they were recieving because of the oscillations causing problems with the datalink. After that they recovered alot more data then they had expected to. But the data did require reconstruction to be useable, which is why the live video feed ended.

""Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." --Albert Einstein"

Of course you do.
But apparently you never watched the video available to the public.
Perhaps you should to increase your awareness.

Well the first 5:01, which includes the increasing oscillations (part of the failure) is available
here (Big 39.5 MB)

A lower resolution version 6.24 MB is available here

Doesn't seem like they're hiding anything to me.

Oh, and here is the analysis of the flight

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Which goes 14 seconds later, and just shows contnuing degredation of the fault.
Tell you what, even though I'm not a journalist, I'm going to write to them to ask the question of why the extended video is not there.

Wonder if you bothered to do that?

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I guess you haven't seen the video on Youtube that goes past T+ 5....blah blah....

Seen it. This doesn't add much to the argument since we knew the 2nd stage failed, we had lots of informed speculation as to why that made sense in real time and it tumbling after oscillations like that are about as surprising as this whole drawn out 'debate' over nothing of consequence.

IMO it's the SDC version of "Seinfeld"

Please prove they "cut the feed" and it was not the data receiver rate was below what could sustain a live webcast.

Prove, as you assert, they cut the feed.

"I know so" will not suffice.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Explain the Youtube video vs the live video on the net

There was much more video

"I know so" IS good enough. I am fortunate to get more insight than Joe Public. Either believe me or remain ignorant.

All the bloody info that spacex has given us an he's complaining about a few seconds of video.... Spacex has absolutely no requirement to be anywhere near as open with information as they are, its actually a rarity in corporate culture these days to have as much insight as they give us, yet, as always, its not up to his standards, to which I say, who cares, we know he'll complain about it anyway, time to simply ignore him.

""Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." --Albert Einstein"

You don't know any more than the average poster here, you just act as though you do. The video on YouTube is what we saw on launch day. We all saw it start to spin & many of us commented on it. Your inside info is exactly the same as what can be read on their website.
I don't believe you & I am as equally informed.

.

Never roll in the mud with a pig.
