"You have no idea what I know". Not if you don't tell us, no.

"Have you toured the spacex plant?"

A trip report from that visit would be interesting. Have you got one you could post? Hearing again how well connected you are is not interesting.

Has jimfromnsf ever written to SpaceX? I have, and I got a reply.
I am waiting for approval to disclose the e-mail response.

If you were a real journalist, perhaps you would have done that instead of using the "I know more than you" line as your full defense.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. You claim to have done all those things - ok, we'll take your word for that. You are in a position to tell us a lot of interesting technical stuff about it. But you don't. This is a forum to exchange information, not credentials.

But you post as if you have all the knowledge of the universe.

You repeatedly ignore requests for some backup to your assertions.

Or even more annoyingly say "I know and you don't"

I don't think the requests from the community to provide some support for your statements is unreasonable. Do you?

In any case, I hope SpaceX gives me permission to post the conversation I had with them

I felt it was proper to ask.

What I know, I will share with the community.

Community, get it?

MW

But the Krell forgot one thing John. They are not "assertions" They are insider information and I can't provide backup because the total scope of the info is not available to the public. Like the spacex video, I know it that it continues beyond the public released version

In the integrating spacecraft pic post, what happened to the other guys face? It looks like it's been cut out. Hell these pics create more questions then they answer.

""Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." --Albert Einstein"

I didn't have the other person's permission to post their pic. Why does it matter?

This is pretty much turned into a personal pissing match. Please stop posting your personal attaches on each other creditability on here. I mean seriously, it's been established that there is more video of the Falcon losing control than what you see on Youtube or his website (Hell Mr. Musk admitted it a few hours after the launch)... probably video all the way to the burn up in the atmosphere. , Jim you are right on that.

SpaceX does not gain anything by showing it, and therefore we will not see it. Mr Musk, Bigelow, and all the others gain dollars on their future IPO by giving the media as much material as they can that presents them as successful, forthright companies. Most of these new space companies are trying to run an Aersopace company like a real estate company or a Silicon Vally startup to contrast themselves with ULA, Energia, and the other major players that represent themselves as science lab/military operations.

Case in point if Armadillo and New Sheppard both had IPOs today, more people would invest with Armadillo than New Sheppard because Armadillo is a known quantity, and has had lots of good PR, even though it looks like New Sheppard has the more developed product.

I don't really care to see the video of the rest of the falcon loosing control.. looks like a few seconds after the video turned off it would be just a bunch of blurry spinning. I mean, I have never seen any video from the Challenger accident from the orbiter itself, and if it is out there I really don't want to.

BTW Jim congrats on what looks like a fantastic career,

Did you every wonder why Spacex added the following process (which is SOP for the space launch industry) AFTER the 1st flight instead of before ?

"2. People & Processes

Considerably more detail has been added to the written procedures for doing work on the rocket at the launch pad. New procedures to deal with unexpected anomalies will require approval of the VP of Launch Operations and the VPs of any department affected by the activity.

Any work done on the rocket, whether a routine part of launch preparations or resolving an anomaly, will now require three signoffs, including the technician, responsible engineer and quality assurance. Previously, work had required only the technician and responsible engineer to cross-check.

This is actually not a significant cost increment, as previously the technician and engineer were responsible for completing quality assurance paperwork. By having the QA person take care of logging all the information and entering it into our QA database, it alleviates the workload of the technician and engineer and allows them to stay focused on preparing the rocket for launch."

Why would a "new" process have to be added after the flight? The mishap wasn't caused by an overlooked misconfiguration of the hardware.

Per Elon "As SpaceX is a company that believes in maximum disclosure"

"Maximum" might be (is) stretching the truth. Think about it

Jimfromnsf,

I disagree with many of your conclusions concerning Newspace and, particularly, SpaceX, and am tempted to chastise you for not offering evidence to support your conclusions. However, in good conscience I cannot do this. About six months ago I got into a heated debate with someone in FS over the legitimacy of the elections in Iraq in December of 2005. He stated that the Iraqi people were coerced and threatened into voting for particular candidates by coalition forces and that reports of the number of people that showed up to the polls was inflated. Having been in Iraq during the elections of December 2005, I could say from firsthand experience that this was unequivocally not true. However, my personal eye-witness account and even pictures that I took showing long lines at the polls were not good enough for him. I was irate because he basically called me a liar and I was frustrated because if my first-hand account wasn't enough to convince him, then I couldn't think of anything that could. So believe me when I say that I totally understand your frustration.

If you say that you work in the aerospace and are privy to inside information, then I will take your word for it.

That being said, the reason that you have recieved so much static here since practically your first post lies not in what you are saying but how you are saying it. To those that disagree with you, you often come off as abrasive at best, and condescending or sometimes just downright rude at worst. You often lord the fact that you work in the space program in an apparent attempt to devalue dissenting opinions and demean those that disagree with you. I do not think that you intend your words to come off like this, nevertheless this is how you appear to us.

While I will admit that your scepticism, a necessity in your line of work, doesn't often mix well with the wide-eyed optimism of many on this board and some here may not want to hear

So, again we are defeated. Thanks for your most recent post in this thread, PistolPete. Very insightful.

Just a little speculation here, but is it possible that certain attitudes toward SpaceX, et al, are motivated by the possibility that they could be in direct competition with a particular member's employer at some point in the future?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. "Just a little speculation here, but is it possible that certain attitudes toward SpaceX, et al, are motivated by the possibility that they could be in direct competition with a particular member's employer at some point in the future?"

Nope, my employer isn't in competition nor can it be in competition with Spacex. My "attitude" isn't moviated , it was formulated by review of documentation available to me
