thanks Andrew.

New Horizons is 100 million miles past Jupiter, and following the tail of Jupiter’s magnetosphere. 500 million miles from Earth too!

last week the space craft sent the last data set to Earth for the Jupiter close approach. Everything is on the ground now according to the official site.

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Thanks Anthmartian.

Hopefully soon we should see some more impressive images, etc.

We have not seen much about the Great Red Spot, or spectral data concerning Callisto, LORRI night time images of Jovian lightning, etc.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Hi portercc.

Yes I understand. Now that the NH stuff is down, we should be getting some
new colour images of Jupiter. I am looking forward to the crescent Jupiter.

Anyway, I know that Neptune is off topic, but I love the Voyager 2
Neptune images. IMO, they still rank among the finest
ever returned from an interplanetary spacecraft.

How about this one of the Great Dark Spot???

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. I really was not trying to get us off topic, I had mentioned in an earlier post that I felt a similarity in the Jupiter cresent and a former Triton/Neptune image and just had to look it up...but I do fine Triton very, very interesting.
You posted some great "oldies".

Andrew,
Recently I tried to compute the perturbation energy injected by Nix,Hydra to the Pluto-Charon couple.
Looked not very large (4 mW/m² on Charon, just a few hundreds of meters for the toggling of Pluto cog,
but more for Charon - 6km). Has anybody assessed the perturbation to the Pluto-Charon locking induced by Nix, Hydra?

May be this is too low not to be negligible for Charon. But on the opposite, this amount of tidal energy may be
injected into Nix and Hydra. Especially given the quasi?-resonance of the two moonlets. (synodic 4/3 and 5/4, absolute 1:4:6).
On these 2 light asteroids, part of it will accelerate them on their orbit, but isn't there a possibility that part
of it heats the moonlets? For a light moonlet, any heating may produce an interesting surface...
