I was in the mood for a little comedy, so I went and read the last couple pages... here's a few quotes:

"The gravitational force of a planet is its acceleration times the area of a circle the radius of which is the mean distance between that planet and the sun.
Priceless indeed, time for me to play around with these comments.

"The gravitational force of a planet is its acceleration times the area of a circle the radius of which is the mean distance between that planet and the sun. So that makes the gravitational constant invalid because mass/density has nothing to do with gravity."

At what point are planets accellerating?

"And the significance of that is that it would follow that it would have an atmosphere and people living on it."

And exactly why would that be?

"As the density of the atmosphere on Mars is very similar to Earths the color of the sky is the same. NASA would like you to believe otherwise so they alter the color of the Martian sky to suit their needs."

Ah yes, I knew there was something conspiratorial in here somewhere. NASA and other scientists believed mars atmosphere would be deep blue until Viking landed. I have the old concept art images of what the surface of mars was thought to look like. From what I could see, evidently nobody imagined a bright pink sky.

"My expertise is in planetary physics not internal gas."

Actually...I'm thinking his expertise IS in the field of internal gas here...of the flatulant kind!

"Because with HAARP the government can control weather, start hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones, cause earthquakes and tidal waves and make you think just about anything they want to make you think."

If this were true...we've already been taken over...no use whining about it.

"I'm sure you mean a rogue planet. If they exist, they would have little or no gravity. The gravitational force of a planet has nothing to do with it mass/density."

I'll have to come back to this one.

"Please let me know when you have read Pari Spolters book "The Gravitational Force of the Sun" so that we are debating on a level field."

Don't you mean Please read the book so you will know I spent my hard earned buck on it before bothering to talk with me?

"Third while the earth is not exactly hollow it does have huge caverns beneath its surface where all kinds of interesting people live."

What would any of this be without hollow earthers..er, I mean huge cavern earthers or HCEs.

"Fourth while the sun is not artificial it is neither a nuclear reactor or nuclear generated. The sun is an electromagnetic sphere."

Theres that electric Universe thing again. Why do these folks insist on an electric Universe anyway?

Replying to:

Apparently a complete wacko by the name of Pari Spollter has written a book called Gravitational Force of the Sun "disproving" Newtonian mechanics.
Posted by DrRocket

On the issue of Spolterian (I think that's what smells bad in the back of the refridgerator) physics what I can determine is that she believes gravity is not dependant on mass but rather on something else. I think for the Sun she believes it's something EM related. In any case her point seems to be that the only way to determine a heavenly body's gravity to to look at the orbits of it's satellites. Then using "her" (?) formula you can compute the gravitational force. Why she doesn't think Newton was correct is not known to me. But she seems stuck in Kepler's time as a result. I'd love to hear her explain why 2 objects of differing masses fall at the same rate in the same gravitational field or why they would weigh differently. I know she's been asked this but I didn't see her answer. As I said before if her book fell into my hands I might read it but I ain't paying more than $2.58 for it.

BTW the above does threaten JL's goofiness re: the Moon's gravity. IF you could ever get JL to admit that the published numbers for some lunar orbitting satellite are correct, you'd disprove his fanciful theory using physics and numbers he agrees with.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

So, here goes..

There are people that are out there that don't know any better. There are kids just now opening their minds to the wonders of true science but haven't the ability to discern the chaff from the kernel. There are also people out there who, either by design or their own ignorance, spew forth garbage and feed off the resulting masses of ignorant but generally well-meaning people out there. Every woowoo isn't a bad person. They're either misguided, ignorant, delusional or have simply just decided for themselves that they have to define their life behind something, so it might as well be B.S.

It's the innocent minds that are hurt by this garbage that upsets me. It's the people that take advantage of someone else's ignorance in order to further their own goals and personal ambitions that upset me as well. How many, otherwise possibly intelligent people, are lead down these primrose money-trails, gleefully joining the swelling cult-like masses of adoring woo-woo fans? How many kids read this garbage and then think that it is real "science" and who's possible contributions to man's true knowledge are forever lost? How many people find some sort of existential meaning in this garbage they pay for because some cult woo-woo psuedoscience leader has managed to crowbar religion into their ramblings just to make a buck?

I think this junk is damaging. I won't say it is dangerous because stupid people drown in mud-puddles and I can't see how this is any different. But, it upsets me to see people taken in by charlatans and hucksters simply because they have the misfortune of being innocently ignorant. The possibility of new minds being forever closed to true science really upsets me as well.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...
