No volcanoes in Venus?

I'm not a subscriber, could you post the relevant paragraphs? I thought there were dormant volcanoes on Venus, just no active ones detected so far. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><strong>My borrowed quote for the time being:</strong></p><p><em>There are three kinds of people in life. The link at the beginning of the thread just has a typo in it (includes the word "are" at the end). It works though:<br /><br />http://www.astronomy.com/asy/default.aspx?c=a&id=4392<br /><br />The article isn't implying a lack of volcanoes (as the thread title suggests), just that eruptions were more random, of various sizes, like on Earth, instead of a larger eruption 500 million years ago modifying the surface:<br /><br /><i>When they compared the sizes and shapes of impact craters on Venus to craters in their model, they realized an enormous eruption 500 million years ago was not necessary to explain the planet's current surface. Instead, they found that randomly timed volcanic eruptions of varying size — similar to those on Earth — could explain what researchers see today.</i>

I am not sure. The impact crater density of Venus, definately shows that the surface is of roughly the same age every where. <br /><br />Venus is a single plate planet (so far as we know) & for Venus to let off internal heat through only sporadic eruptions as a primary way of ridding excessive internal heat seems unlikely, unless the eruptions are huge & prolonged.<br /><br />Venus has volcanoes, no doubt. <br /><br />See image below. Shield Volcano on Venus.<br /><br />This image, with radar illumination from west to east, shows an unusual volcano located in the Guinevere Planitia lowland. At the center of the image is a large feature (50 kilometers or 31 miles in diameter) with an unusual shape; very round when viewed from above with steep slides and a flat top. The volcano is believed to be the result of relatively thick and sticky (viscous) lava flows that originated from a point source. <br /><br />The image had to be cropped & cropped, & cropped again, then shrunk. The 100 KB limit sometimes is too low. The Magellan image below should show three shield volcanoes on Venus, but I could only post one. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font color="#000080">"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. I have reread it.You are right ,it does not deny existence of volcano in venus.
